LCC Guest Speakers

Had the pleasure of LCC representatives visiting Blackburn College today to discus BA courses and lots of information on their six colleges and also how to apply. Also a presentation from three students at 1st, 2nd and 3rd year level of their degrees. Great experience.

Notes from today’s session: portfolios. 1. Start with your strongest piece with of work and end with your second strongest piece of work. 2. When taking photographs of your work, use a white of black background to enhance your work. Never use artificial light, if you have no choice use one single light. 3. If you are unsure about a piece of your work, don’t put it in. You should never apologise for a piece of work. 4. Add a range of different types of work, not just 10 life drawings. Your portfolio is a chance for your to shine so it’s up to you to make that happen.

National Saturday Club

I have had the pleasure of becoming part of the ‘National Saturday Club’ at Blackburn College as an ambassador. “Blackburn College’s Art&Design Saturday Club runs exciting and engaging creative workshops in a range of art and design processes including drawing, ceramics, printmaking, spot welding, design, typography, photography, fashion and textiles”. Sat Club Week 1 – Lino Printing.

The club had a go at Lino cut pricing today, it was a successful session in respect of the club enjoying the technique.

Ink Work

By using black ink an a long twig we created a large scale piece of work related to our word/object My word/object was, ‘Watch’

I accidentally spilt the black ink so, I decided to try and use up the access ink. I used a coffee cup, dipped the coffee cup into the spilt ink and created a piece of work. The theme being ‘watch’ watches are mostly shaped in a circle.
Group work. four people in one group had to make drawings of their word/theme and then connect each word/object with the person to their left.

  • Strips of card cut into strips, I intend to use these strips of card instead of a paintbrush
From the group piece of work, I decided to use a view finder to select a section of the final piece and scale it up.
Black ink and a long twig was used to create drawings of our word/object. I found this exercise very different to anything I have tried before. Fun exercise where our drawings are freely created and bigger than the usual sketch books.
